Immediate danger

For fire, active danger, medical emergencies, or situations where people are at risk, call 911 first. For Columbia non-emergency public safety, use 803-252-2911.

Smell gas

Leave the area, avoid switches and flames, call 911 if there is immediate danger, and contact Dominion Energy gas emergency at 800-815-0083.

Downed or sparking power line

Stay away from the line and anything touching it. Call 911 if people are in danger and report downed or sparking lines to Dominion Energy at 888-333-4465.

Burst water main or sewer backup

If the issue involves City of Columbia water or sewer service, contact City Customer Care / water-sewer emergency at 803-545-3300. If safe, document visible damage and then contact the right plumbing or restoration provider.

Digging or utility marking

Before digging, call SC811 at 811 or 888-721-7877. Do not let a contractor begin excavation work without appropriate utility marking.

Storm, tree, roof, or water damage

Prioritize life safety and official emergency contacts first. Then document damage when safe and compare the relevant tree service, roofing, restoration, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or garage door providers.
